Van Hollen Statement on the Resignation of White House Chief of Staff William Daley and Appointment of Jack Lew as his Replacement
Washington, DC – Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, today issued the following statement on the resignation of White House Chief of Staff William Daley and the appointment of Jack Lew as his replacement:
“I have been privileged to work closely with Jack Lew and his team at the Office of Management and Budget over the last year as we confronted some of our nation’s most pressing fiscal issues, and I’m confident he will serve the President and the country well in his new role as White House Chief of Staff.
“Jack is an expert on economic issues, working tirelessly to help put Americans back to work and reduce our deficit over the long-term. His decades of experience in both domestic and international issues, as well as his clear understanding of Congress, make him an excellent choice for the job. Jack has earned the trust and respect of members from both sides of the aisle on Capitol Hill, and I look forward to continuing my work with him in this new role.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Bill Daley for his service to our country during these challenging times, and I wish him and his family the best in their future endeavors.”
